Visit to the Ferpècle and Mont Miné glaciers
We are pleased to invite you to a visit to the Ferpècle and Mont Miné glaciers in the Val d’Hérens on Saturday, 15 August 2026.
Focused on climate change, glaciers and forests, this visit will offer a field-based perspective on the ongoing changes affecting the landscape and the glaciers. The excursion will be guided by Amédée Zryd (PH’85), physicist and glaciologist, President of the La Maison des Alpes Foundation, together with a geologist.
This is a unique opportunity to observe the current state of our glaciers alongside specialists (a glaciologist and a geologist). This year, particular emphasis will be placed on the geology of the region.

📍 Location: Ferpècle (1983), Val d’Hérens
⏳ Time: 10:00–17:00 (return at your own pace in the afternoon)
💰 Participation fee: The event is free of charge. A voluntary collection will be organised on site in support of La Maison des Alpes.
👉 Registration required: registrations will open three weeks before the event.
👨👩👧👦 This event is open to families, including children. All participants must be registered.
In case of bad weather, the outing will be postponed to 22 August 2026. Participants will be informed by SMS on Friday evening at 8:00 pm whether the event will take place or be cancelled.
Programme
10:00 – Meeting point in Ferpècle, Val d’Hérens (post bus arrival at 10:03, Ferpècle stop).
For those arriving by car: Lieu-dit Salay, on the road to Ferpècle.Approx. 1.5 to 2 hours of walking towards the Ferpècle glacier, with presentations and explanations on glaciers, their dynamics and climate.
Picnic (bring your own) followed by a discussion and short presentation on glacier retreat.
Return individually or as a group.
Please note: the only post bus leaving Ferpècle in the afternoon departs at 16:17. It is also possible to walk to Les Haudères (approx. 1 hour) or to carpool.
