Celebration on Campus with Martin Vetterli and Anna Fontcuberta i Morral
On November 30, 2024, the entire EPFL community gathered for a celebratory event, as Martin Vetterli steps down as President at the end of the year and Anna Fontcuberta i Morral begins her term of office on January 1, 2025. This exceptional event brought together students, graduates, faculty and staff of the School.
For a part of the EPFL Alumni community, the evening began at 5pm in the MED building, with a convivial aperitif. It brought together the most committed volunteers of the EPFL Alumni network: members of the committees of the international chapters, “super” mentors who have been involved in our mentoring program for over five years, members of the EPFL Alumni Board, our "parrains" and "marraines" for each section at the Magistrale, the committee of the Acube Foundation, which supports alumni and alumnae in their continuing education, and last but not least the Gold contributor members. This first part of the event was an opportunity to thank all those who support the network and to converse in a warm atmosphere with the School's Presidency.
At 6:30 p.m., the Rolex Forum welcomed the 600 participants for a conference during which Martin Vetterli reflected on his eight years as President. The EPFL Alumni took the opportunity to present him with a gift: a cartoon depicting the highlights of his two terms of office (the School's 50th anniversary, the Covid years, etc.), as well as Martin Vetterli's most famous expressions. The work also showed the number of diplomas signed by Martin Vetterli during his two mandates: no less than 17,852, or almost 40% of the EPFL Alumni population! The student body was not to be outdone, as AGEPoly was also able to discuss with the President on stage.
After these emotional moments, the second part of the conference featured a talk between the School's appointed President, Anna Fontcuberta i Morral, and Nicolas Cudré-Mauroux (MX'85), Chief Technical Officer at SICPA and member of the EPFL Alumni Board. The exchange enabled the future President to present some initial elements of her vision for the School.
At the end of the conference, guests enjoyed a buffet dinner and a variety of activities, including a photo stand, a networking game, an exhibition and board games provided by Helvetiq.
Thank you to all our graduates for attending this event. And, of course, our warmest thanks to Martin Vetterli for the eight years we have worked together to develop the network, and a warm welcome to Anna Fontcuberta i Morral, with whom we look forward to continuing our collaboration.
