The EPFL Alumni Eastern Switzerland chapter organised for the alumni a visit of AEK Pellet SA production site in Balsthal (SO) on April 11th, 2019.

AEK Pellet SA was created following the hurricane named “Lothar” in the late 20th century. So many trees were uprooted that nobody knew what to do make of them. From this situation emerged the idea to recycle the trees by making wood pellets, thus providing tens of thousands of Swiss homes with an eco-friendly combustible. The event was a unique opportunity to learn more about this industry and discover the prominent role it has in the local economy.
