EPFL, like the rest of the world, has had to face this crisis and find solutions to pursue its missions of education, research and innovation. On December 8th, 2020, Martin Vetterli, President of EPFL, shared with alumni during an online conference the challenges and opportunities encountered in 2020, the lessons learned and his vision for 2021.
He was joined by three EPFL professors very involved in the COVID-19 crisis and often quoted in the press:
– Professor Jacques Fellay, Associate Professor at the EPFL and Director of the Unit of Precision Medicine at the CHUV, member of the Swiss National COVID-19 Science Task Force, is conducting a research project on the human genomics of severe forms of COVID-19.
– Professor Carmela Troncoso, Head of the Security and Privacy Engineering Laboratory at the EPFL Faculty of Computer Science and Communications, member of the Swiss National COVID-19 Science Task Force, has actively participated in the development of the SwissCovid application.
– Professor Francesco Stellacci, Director of the Laboratory of Supramolecular Nanomaterials and Interfaces EPFL (SUNMil), is developing a broad-spectrum anti-viral drug with the hope of making progress in the fight against SARS-CoV-2 in particular.
