Discover the four EPFL Alumni Awards 2023

They have brilliant careers, make a positive impact in their fields, and are putting EPFL in the spotlight through their journeys. Every year, on the occasion of the Magistrale Master's degree graduation ceremony, the School presents several graduates with an Alumni Award in recognition of their achievements - discover here the full list of past awardees.

We are now proud to announce the four EPFL Alumni Awards 2023. These four amazing graduates are thriving accross entrepreneurship, arts, politics and the energy industry. They demonstrate the diversity of careers after EPFL while sharing a common goal: having a direct impact on society each in their own way.


Ghita Mezzour (SC’08)
Morocco’s Minister Delegate in Charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform

An expert in Artificial Intelligence, Ghita Mezzour graduated from EPFL in Communication Systems before earning her PhD at Carnegie Mellon University. She has led a brilliant career as a Professor at the International University of Rabat and as an entrepreneur. She was named Morocco’s Minister Delegate in Charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform in October 2021. In that role, she is intent on furthering her career-long goal of using digital technology to make a positive impact on society.

Assia Garbinato (PhD IN’00)
Head of Digital & Innovation at Romande Energie

Assia Garbinato is a data scientist and artificial intelligence expert who completed her PhD at EPFL in 2000. After building a career as a leader within Vaudoises Assurance culminating in her appointment  as Head of Data & Information management in 2019, she joined Romande Energie as Chief Data Officer in 2020. She was promoted to Head of Digital & Innovation in 2021 and joined the Executive Board. As a manager, she values a human approach and sees self-awareness and self-development as tools to achieve this.

Metin Arditi (PH’68)
Writer

An EPFL graduate in Physics (1968) and with an MBA from Stanford (1970), Metin Arditi began his career in atomic research, consulting then real estate entrepreneurship. Passionate about art and culture, he became a philanthropist and an author in the 1990s. The 20+ books he published have been widely acclaimed by the public, and his career has been crowned with several awards, including the Prix Jean-Giono for Le Turquetto (2011), the Prix Méditerranée for L’enfant qui mesurait le monde and the Prix Machiavel for Tu seras mon père.

Madiha Derouazi (PhD CGC’05)
CEO of Speransa Therapeutics, Founder and former CEO of Amal Therapeutics

Madiha Derouazi holds a PhD in Biotechnology from EPFL and has been working on vector engineering and vaccine design for over 15 years. In 2012, she founded AMAL Therapeutics, a biotech company developing therapeutic cancer vaccines. The company was acquired by Boehringer Ingelheim in July 2019 for €325M. She is now the CEO of Speransa Therapeutics, a clinical-stage Biotech with a Focus on COVID-19 Vaccine Development.
