Dear EPFL Alumni,

We warmly invite you to our conference "UBS-Credit Suisse and The Future of Swiss Banking" on June 1st at 18:30, taking place at the Warwick Hotel in Geneva. This event, co-organized by the Geneva alumni chapters of EPFL and IMD, in partnership with Alpian, will delve into the implications of the UBS-Credit Suisse merger on the future of Swiss banking. This emergency merger, despite preventing a potential banking meltdown, has positioned Switzerland to rely heavily on a singular, substantial financial institution. The uncertainty surrounding the success of this mega-merger remains high. As Prof. Arturo Bris, a renowned finance professor at IMD Business School, rightly points out, "One of the most established facts in academic research is that bank mergers hardly ever work.”
We will begin the conference with Prof. Bris, who will provide his insights on the pros and cons of the limited options available at the time of the merger, drawing very interesting comparison to other examples of “bank distress”, as well as its potential future implications. Following this, Mr. Schuyler Weiss, Chief Executive Officer at Alpian, will discuss the role of innovation in the Swiss financial system, and share his vision for Alpian as a pioneering force in Swiss digital private banking. Please join us as we explore these complexities, discuss the future of Swiss banking, and envision a resilient financial system.
Warm regards,
Your EPFL Geneva Alumni network
