The MAKE Projects are interdisciplinary projects that represent the challenges students will be confronted with once they graduate. These projects are born out of their desir to create, discover and surpass limits.

In addition to their solid background in a core discipline, these projects require the ability to work at the intersection of several fields. The goal is to give students the opportunity to confront the challenges posed challenges posed by interdisicplinarity right from their training, giving them a head start in developing the necessary skills they will need in their professional future.

Here are just a few examples of what has been achieved since the MAKE Projects were launched:

  • The EPFL Rocket Team has designed, manufactured and launched rockets, and won the European Rocketry Challenge in 2021. In 2022, they launched their first supersonic rocket.
  • EPFL Xplore designed and built a rover from scratch. They reached 2nd place at the European Rover Challenge in 2022.
  • SP80 designed and manufactured an innovative boat prototype in pursuit of the world sailing speed record (150 km/h).
  • iGEM explored synthetic biology for a better world and won the Grand Prize in Boston in 2019.

As EPFL graduates, you have the possibility to support these students by giving them visibility in your network, coaching them or financially supporting the MAKE fund. You can find out more about how you can help equip EPFL students or contribute to other EPFL Student Support Program initiatives. If you have any interest in getting involved, contact Sinda Sayad, Alumni Development Manager.
